The John Moores Painting Prize, launched
in 1957, continues to be the UK's most
prestigious painting prize. The £25,000
first prize and four other awards of £2,500 are certainly helpful to any artist,
but more important still is the boost to
reputation that winning the John Moores
brings. The competition continues to be
recognised amongst painters as the one to
watch.
"[The John Moores Painting Prize is] the Oscar of the British painting world" - Sir Norman Rosenthal, curator and former exhibitions secretary at the Royal Academy.
"[The Walker is]...probably the best of all the regional museums in Britain" and on John Moores 2010: "...catch up with innovative developments in a traditional medium" - Rachel Campbell-Johnston, The Times.
"One of the best John Moores for a very long time"
"An emotionally and intellectually interesting collection"
"Thank you Liverpool, thank you Walker, thank you [John] Moores"
