'Mickey's Trailer', Richard Baines

Painting of a barn in a field of corn

Oil and gloss on canvas, 47.2 x 64.3 cm, 2007

Artist's statement

The paintings I create are narrative constructions assembled from elements extracted from many different sources including my own drawings, photographs and found images. The images I make tell of obsessive behaviours, uncomfortable circumstances and uneasy solitude. The fractured origins of the stories presented
unite with the stillness and expectancy of something waiting to happen to create an overwhelming feeling of discomfort that will never be satisfied by an actual event.
