Curatorial services

Enquiries

The curators at the Walker Art Gallery are happy to look into enquiries from members of the public regarding the collection and history of the gallery. We endeavour to respond to all enquiries as soon as possible, but at busy periods there can be delays.

Curatorial opinions sessions and valuations

If you would like a curator to look at a work of fine or decorative art in your possession please bring it to one our curatorial opinions sessions. Please note that due to the volume of visitors to this service and the number of objects we can see, we can only look at a maximum of two objects per visitor. This is to ensure that all visitors are able to talk with a curator.

As a public museum, we are not permitted to provide valuations on items. Please contact your nearest auction house if you require an item to be valued.

Visits to objects in the stores

We will consider requests to visit objects in the stores on a case by case basis and try to accommodate requests where possible, but there may be times when this proves difficult owing to other projects or the availabilty of staff. We require a mininimum of 28 days' notice for visits to see objects in store.

The Walker is currently undertaking a major cataloguing project of the works on paper collection and as such cannot facilitate any visits to see the collection or respond to general enquiries about it.

Visits to the archive

We are happy to show members of the public, researchers and students material from our archive relating to the history of the gallery and the collection. It is not possible to remove items from the building but visitors are invited to make an appointment to view items in the study room with curators. Please give as much notice as possible if you would like to make an appointment to view material. We ask for at least 28 days notice.
