Waiting for legal advice
James Campbell, 1857
Who are you?
I'm John Stokes, a respected Liverpool watchmaker. I should be doing repairs in my shop right now but I'll have to sit and wait here instead.
Where are you?
I'm in a solicitor's office in the centre of Liverpool. If those two clerks think that I can't hear them whispering, then they're more foolish than they look. Blood suckers, the lot of them!
What are you doing there?
I have some important business to sort out. My brother thinks that he should have inherited my mother's jewellery and is trying to steal them away from me. I have them in my carpet bag and I'm not going to let them go.
What are you going to do next?
Once I've sorted out this mess, I'm going back to my shop. Though I'm not looking forward to going back outside - it's raining cats and dogs out there!
