More than 1,300 items from our significant Egyptology collection. The full collection is one of the largest in the UK with 16,000 items spanning from the Prehistoric (c.5300 BC) to the end of the Byzantine Period (642 AD).
It seemed no coincidence that the sun shone bright on the day that we moved our statues of the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet, daughter of sun god Ra, from World Museum’s atrium to their new home in our Ancient Egypt: A journey through time gallery.

World Museum did not subscribe to this excavation but in 1956 the museum purchased much of Norwich Castle Museum's Egyptian collection which contained Egypt Exploration Society excavated material donated by the East Anglia Egyptian Society who subscribed to the EES excavations at Abydos and Amarna. We have 19 items from these excavations.
