About this object

Gold shank with oval-shaped setting for a carnelian scarab on swivel bezel. The underside of the scarab is decorated with an incised 'hes' vase sign. Setting is 15 mm wide and 19 mm in length. The hoop does not pass completely through the setting and is now rather loose.

Display dimensions on mount: H 30mm W 25 mm L 32 mm.

The accession number was given in 1978 and so far the provenance of the object has not been traced. There is just a faint trace of a black number painted on the inside thickness of the hoop. A showcase layout drawing from the 1976 permanent gallery has the object marked as 57.87.9 which is crossed out and a note written beside reads "no number".
