Fragment of a carved ivory bovine leg, standing on a ribbed cylinder. A furniture element, from either the foot of a bed or a seat. Marked by the excavator "Y25", indicating this was found within the tomb of Queen Merytneit.. Burnt grey-black.

    Description: Excavations directed by Flinders Petrie at Abydos for the Egypt Exploration Fund. The museum provided financial sponsorship towards the costs and received a share of the finds that the Egyptian authorities allowed to be exported outside of Egypt. The museum subscribed to the 1899-1900 excavations and received 179 finds that were accessioned on 24 September 1900, accession series 24.9.00.56-126 (mainly Early Dynastic finds from the Royal Tombs...) The museum subscribed to the 1900-1901 excavations and received 114 finds that were accessioned on 14 October 1901, accession series 14.10.01.1-53 (mainly Early Dynastic finds from the Royal Tombs but also Middle Kingdom finds from tombs D79 and D81). The museum subscribed to the 1901-1902 Abydos excavations and received 57 finds that were accessioned on 16 September 1902, accession series 16.9.02.1-57 (...)
