A handwritten note with the object reads: "Four small dishes of alabaster. Rustafjaell coll." Acquired at the Rustafjaell 1913 sale: "[lot] 172 Three small circular Dishes, two of finely veined stone, 4f in. and 5 in.diameter ; another, larger, but in more opaque stone [PI. XIV] 4".
