About this object

Fragment of an oversized faience ankh amulet made from faience with a green coloured glaze that is now very worn. Inscribed with a single vertical column of hieroglyphs on each side. One side has the cartouche of Aspelta and the other side with only the 'nsw bity' title and the throne name of Aspelta (Mery-ka-ra) in a cartouche. Broken in three pieces and mended. Missing upper hoop part of the ankh was restored in 2017. Findspot number 294-60 ('palace' building M294). Part of a votive deposit John Garstang excavated beneath the floor of a palace that was built over an older temple. These religious objects probably date to the Napatan Period (about 700 BC - 300 BC).
