About this object

Fragment of an Egyptian alabaster canopic jar, inscribed with two columns of finely carved hieroglyphs containing the cartouche of King Psamtek. Underside marked in ink "Saqqarah 1893" and in pencil (?) "Saite". Collector's labels stuck to the surface.
