Percy Edward Newberry

Egyptologist, botanist and collector

Professor Percy Edward Newberry MA OBE was an English Egyptologist and botanist. He was Brunner Professor of Egyptology at the University of Liverpool 1906-19, then Hon. Reader in Egyptian Art 1919. He catalogued World Museum's Egyptology collections just before his retirement from the Brunner chair in Egyptology and donated various material to the museum including shabtis from his 1895 - 1901 fieldwork at Thebes. The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge have about 350 items from Percy Newberry that are mainly scarabs and seals.
