Joyce Hearne

Female collector of Egyptology

Mrs E. Joyce F. Hearne received Egyptian material from Miss Amy Urlin, a relation of the archaeologist Professor Flinders Petrie. Some of this material was given on loan to Glasgow Art Gallery & Museums by Miss Amy Urlin in November 1912.

Mrs Hearne was married to the curator of Littlehampton Museum. The collection came via Littlehampton Museum, as did that of Lady Allen Williams, and the two became muddled when they were both presented to the Museum Committee in 1944. Many objects were renumbered between 1976 and 1977 according to the inventories of both collections. In some instances there may still be confussion and objects may be marked twice.

Mrs Hearne's address was: Landsdowne, 1 Broadmark Lane, Rustington, Sussex.
