Collector of Egyptology and author

Colonel Robert de Rustafjaell was a British collector and author with wide-ranging interests including ancient Egypt (particularly mining and geology). He was a fellow of the Royal Geological Society, member of various learned societies including the Royal Numismatical Society, the Zoological society, the Royal Society of Arts, the Hellenic Society of the British School of Rome. He was a Bey of the Ottoman Empire. After World War I, de Rustafjaell moved to the United States, where he lived under the name Col. Prince Roman Orbeliani. Many of the artefacts he collected were dispersed in three sales between 1906 and 1915. Some of these collections are now within World Museum Liverpool because of collectors such as Sir Francis Danson, Sir Henry Wellcome and Gloucester City Museums.
