Hugh Whitaker

Excavator in Egypt

Hugh Whitaker was in Egypt in the early part of the 20th century. In 1910 he applied for the concession to excavate the palace of Amenhotep III at Thebes, but was refused permission by Arthur Weigall who was then Inspector-General of Antiquities for the Egyptian Government. Instead Whitaker worked at Akhmin with Percy Newberry.

As yet we have no information about his birth and death dates etc. and welcome any further details.
