Amy Urlin

Assistant to Petrie in Egypt

Amy Urlin was born in Rustington, Sussex, 1865, daughter of Richard Denny Urlin and Mary Addis. Her younger sister Hilda Petrie was married to the archaeologist William Matthew Flinders Petrie. She assisted Petrie on his excavation of the cemetery at Abydos in his second season. For some time Amy was a school manager (1911 census) and was involved with different charitable works. She was a committee member of the Egyptian Research Students' Account. Amy built a small collection of Egyptian antiquities which was inherited by Mrs Margaret Joyce Edelweiss Hearne who then sold the collection to Liverpool Museum in 1944.
