About this object

Statuette of a semi-draped male, identified as Silvanus. According to Blundell the head was unbroken from the body. He holds in his arm a branch of a cypress. Restorations included both legs below the knee with the correspondong support and the hand with the end of the branch.

    Blundell's Account identified this as Silvanus and expained as a rural deity, the son of an Italian shepherdess by a goat. He also appreciated it for the singularity of character than its fineness as a sculpture. it was displayed in the Garden Temple. Ashmole noted that is of the usual type of Silvanus and instead of wearing a skin filled with fruit, he is wearing a rather simple cloak.
