Bartolomeo Cavaceppi

1716-1799, sculptor, restorer and dealer

Cavaceppi initially trained as a sculptor, and in 1732 entered the Accademis di San Luca. In 1734, Cavaceppi was appointed restorer to Cardinal Albani, one of the most noted private collectors of antiquities in Rome. The relationship with Cardinal Albani led to commissions from visitors to Rome, particularly British collectors. In addition to restoring ancient statues, Cavaceppi also created works in the ancient style.
