John Thorpe

1726-1792, Agent and dealer

Father John Thorpe was an English Jesuit, resident in Rome in the later part of the 18th century, who acted as an agent and dealer in antiquities.

After Pope Clement XIV's suppression of the Jesuit order in 1773, Thorpe had remained in Rome, acting as agent for the purchase of art works for Lord Arundell of Wardour. Subsequently, Thorpe was engaged by Blundell as his own agent for the purchase of sculptures and pictures.
