Alessandro Gregorio Capponi

1683-1746, Roman nobleman, art collector

The Marchese Alessandro Gregorio Capponi was Privy Chamberlain to the Pope and President of the Vatican Museum. He assembled a fine collection of antiquities, paintings and books, which was dispersed after his death in 1746,much of it going to the Capitoline Museum in Rome.

Some of his collection was inherited by the Conte Cardelli, who subsequently sold items to Gavin Hamilton, Thomas Jenkins and Bartolomeo Cavaceppi.
