About this object

A domed hat made up of triangular, yellow brocade silk panels that form the cap. The wide, upturned brim is edged in red and yellow, while the main body is black and decorated with embroidered lotus flowers and foliage. A red silk twisted knot acts as a finial.

    Coloured hat (Tro-zha) said to be like the hat worn by Padma Sambhava and now worn by Maharaja or Councillors, but not by persons below. Can be worn with the robe described above (robe not yet identified).

    Curator's note: Although the entry for this hat does not give any provenance details it is entered into the catalogue with a group of objects that was clearly acquired during the Bhutan Treaty Mission of 1910.
