The Collected Works of Bu ston: The History of Buddhism


About this object

A block printed Tibetan manuscript or pecha. A copy of The History of Buddhism by bu ston rin chen grub [Buton Rinchen Drub (1290-1364)]. The manuscript has 190 folios, printed on daphne bark paper, there are line drawings of the Buddha on the left and Bu ston Rin chen Grub on the right of the first folio. There is a nicely decorated cloth label and a pair of wooden covers, covered in red lacquer with lotus designs in gold & silver.

    Curator's note: There is one duplicate title page and two extra leaves at the end. Other copies can be found in the Tibetan Book Resource Center, TBRC: W1923
    Bell records in his book, 'Religion of Tibet', 'I have two copies of this work. The Dalai Lama gave me one; the Pan-chen Rim-po-che gave me the other. The copy from the Dalai Lama is on thick, good paper, and very clearly printed'.
