About this object

A carved folding wooden table. The top covered in a red paint or lacquer, the lip decorated with a diamond shaped pattern of flowers painted in gold. The front panel is deeply carved with a central lotus that supports a bowl of jewels. From the central stem flow several other lotus flowers, which fill the panel. The border is carved to resemble bamboo and is painted in green, red and gold. The two side panels show a lotus emerging from the waters, each flower head holding a bowl containing lotus buds, painted in red with gold spots.
