About this object

A large wax disc used as a seal on fabric letter bags. It has a raised inscription, part of which is double printed making it difficult to read. In the centre is a square seal in Hindi, above each of the four sides is an inscription in Urdu and around the edge is the inscription in English, of this only part can be read, ' Maharaja Dhir ....Singh Bahadur 1889'.Attached to the top and bottom of the seal is a twisted silk thread of purple and yellow, at the ends are tassles of purple silk.
