About this object

A Tibetan woman's waist apron made from three lengths of silk stitched together, woven in horizontal strips of bright jewel-like colours. The top corners have additional triangular pieces of gold brocade embroidered with satin stitch silk threads to create naturalistic peony-like flowers. The woven waist ties of pink, green and yellow silk appear to be more recent additions.
