About this object

A hoe (canoe paddle) with a carved inscription 'JV' on the flat side of the blade about halfway along. There is a small square hole through the blade near its tip on the flat side only, not penetrating through to the other side. There is a slightly thickened section at the end of the handle. The wood surface is shiny and may be varnished.
