A R Savage

Collector of Arctic and New Zealand material

Probably Arthur Savage (1798-1852), a naval surgeon who sailed to Hobart in 1835 and to Sydney in 1836 and 1838. He was a Surgeon-Superintendant on convict ships. Source: Australian Dictionary of Biography. Part of the collection of Captain A R Savage which numbered more than 500 objects was the founding collecting of the America collections. He sold it to the museum in 1857.
