Pegmatite from Madagascar

The rock collections (around 11,500 registered specimens) contain igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, of which just under half are from worldwide locations. They are arranged by class and stratigraphy or region. The collection also includes about 8,000 thin sections of rocks, most of which have been cut from rocks in the collection and a collection of about 100 meteorites, impactites and tektites.

Major rock collections include specimens from the University of Liverpool (1984) and the Wright Collection (2008).

Other collections include the Davies collection of rocks from North Wales and Northwest England, the Wilson collection of Cornish rocks and the Rae collection of Orcadian glacial erratic pebbles, the Lucas collection of rocks and the T. A. Jones collection of local glacial erratics including thin sections.
