About this object

A large, dark newt, typically brownish or greyish above with darker spots, belly usually yellow, orange or reddish-orange boldly patterned with blackish or dark grey spots or blotches. Breeding males develop a high, usually spiky crest with mother-of-pearl stripe along the tail. Total length 13-18 cm.
