English aristocrat and politician (1752–1834), close to Charles James Fox and George Prince of Wales best known for founding the 'Derby' horserace in 1780 at Epsom but also an art collector. Succeeded as 12th Earl of Derby in 1776 and is buried in the Stanley family vault at Ormskirk parish church.
