Drawn from stores
18 Apr 2018
Suitable for:
Free event, pre-booking is essential

'Drawn from the stores' is a unique opportunity to get behind-the-scenes into the World Museum’s archives, guided by guest artist Raji Salan (MA Art in Science, LJMU) in collaboration with expert World Museum collections staff.

Selected specimens will be drawn out from the collections stores for you to handle and explore through themed activities combining sketching and storytelling.

Recognising the history of specimen collecting as being intrinsically linked to drawing as a documentary activity, we’ll be expanding the idea of drawing-as-record, taking a multi-sensory approach that foregrounds the relationship between sight and touch.

Come and delve deeper into the history, origins and characteristics of some extraordinary and curious specimens, and create your own visual experiments to take home with you.

No drawing experience required. Please bring paper and drawing materials of your choice, but ‘dry’ media only please. Pencils, charcoal and pastels are kind to museum archives; inks and paints are not.
