Gold Medalet

Circle of gold with a man's face, characters and a hook for a chain

c.600 AD

This gold medalet shows Luidhard, the first bishop in Anglo-Saxon Britain. Bishop Luidhard’s arrival in Kent from the Frankish court started the conversion of the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity. The medalet was probably given to an early convert.
