large pottey bowl with yellowish pattern

Height: 21.5cm

This large bowl is decorated with blue lotus flowers with red details and black outlines. It comes from Amarna in northern Egypt. The bowl imitates the form of the white lotus.

Blue-painted pottery seems only to have been made at royal residences or palaces. It was therefore produced by a small number of craftsmen in a few workshops. It was used for ornament, in the house, in religious activities and in tombs. This restored example originally had a foot, which is now missing.
