Artistic innovations in a changing world

Amazonian artisans have drawn inspiration from diverse sources. The flow of goods and ideas through indigenous trade networks introduced different styles and designs, inspiring innovative changes.

European trade goods were one source of new shapes and designs. Pottery that combined traditional forms with European designs became popular during the Rubber Boom years (1850-1920), and was widely traded.

Today, artists produce both for the community and the international art markets.
