Indigenous populations around the Solimões River made pottery with complex designs, often in bold geometric patterns. At the turn of the century, floral patterns also became popular, inspired by newly introduced European designs.

These types of pots were traded up and down the Solimões River and elsewhere, and are among the finest of South America.
