This is one half of a fine pair of pottery pitchers made for the tourist market. It was perhaps commissioned for European homes in Iquitos or neighbouring areas.

They were modelled on European pottery with unusual spouts in the form of male and female human heads.

Solimões potters were renowned for the fine quality of their workmanship. They adapted well to new market demands, even through the turbulent years of the Rubber Boom
