The Amazon today
Many Amazonian peoples participate effectively in the modern world while
retaining their traditions and cultural values. They seek to set their own
course for social and economic development, rather than having these imposed on
them without consultation.
As loggers, ranchers and miners continue to encroach on Native territories, land
claims and human rights issues remain at the forefront of indigenous concerns.
