The Shipibo-Conibo brew masato (manioc beer) for festivals and store it in massive masato chomo (jars) like this example. Chomo are often partially buried in the ground to keep the beer cool.

The geometric designs are said to resemble the skin patterns of a coiled snake. Shipibo-Conibo myths tell that the designs were inspired by the skin of Ronin – the Great World Anaconda.
