Hiawatha

In 1913, Liverpool Museum received a donation of Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) material from an individual named ‘Chief Hiawatha’.

Liverpool was a venue for Native American entertainers especially after the arrival of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in 1891. Chief Hiawatha may have been a stage name used by a performer.
