A window onto another world
Invading Europeans burned whole libraries of books in huge bonfires, fearing their intellectual power. Today, only two dozen or so screenfold books in the Native tradition are known to have survived. Of these, only half – among them Fejérváry-Mayer – are likely to be pre-Cortesian (before 1521).
