Buddhist mythology tells how three Gods each gave Buddha a beautiful begging bowl. He compressed all three into one, so not to offend any of the Gods by not using their bowl. If you look closely you can see how the maker has made two bands beneath the rim of the bowl to make it look like the bowls have been pressed together.
