Hugh Richardson was the last British political representative in Tibet. He was present at the installation of the present Dalai Lama in 1939.
After leaving Tibet in 1950, Richardson devoted 50 years of his life to the study of Tibet. He was one of the leading experts on Tibetan history and culture.
Richardson had a long association with the museum's fine Tibetan collection. Happily, he was able to choose his own favourite objects for the present displays.
