Barkcloth todayIn some places Islanders still value barkcloth very highly. Fijians, Tongans and Samoans still use it as in exchanges to cement social ties, for example at weddings. Barkcloth-making has died out in some parts of Oceania, but Tongans still make large amounts for export to Polynesians in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
