The award winning Clore Natural History Centre has been one of the most popular attractions at World Museum Liverpool. In 2005 it moved into a new specially-built home within the museum, with more space and additional technology in order to bring visitors closer than ever before to the wonders of the natural world.

This is the place to come to get your hands on more than 20,000 of the most unusual and fascinating items from our huge natural science collections. You can touch a hippopotamus skull, examine an exotic tropical butterfly or hold a mammoth tooth. The Clore Natural History Centre is packed full of mounted and preserved specimens of all types of animals from around the globe. There are also rocks, minerals, fossils and plants for you to see.

The centre's expert demonstrator staff are always on hand to answer questions and provide extra information about the objects. Special display cases mean you can get a close look at a hairy spider's legs or a locust's lacy wings under video-microscopes. A range of interactive displays and hands-on activities mean that people of all ages and abilities can get the most out of this unique facility.

Besides the objects on permanent display, the centre often hosts a variety of fun and exciting events. Recently visitors have had the chance to meet some live owls, handle live snakes or eat a variety of insects (cooked, of course) that provide a valuable source of protein for people in many countries.

There are now even more fascinating exhibits from World Museum Liverpool's collections on show in the centre than ever before, including material that has never previously been on display. A new learning space within the centre provides specialist equipment for school groups and public workshops.

School groups are welcome, although booking is essential. For more details please contact World Museum Liverpool's learning staff on 0151 478 4296.
