Specialist interests:
My primary research centres on the architecture and construction of mastaba tombs in the late Old Kingdom. I also have interests in tomb construction during other periods of Egyptian history (e.g., in the Valley of the Kings), Egyptian architecture, settlement archaeology in Egypt and the use of Egyptian artefacts for learning and teaching.
Current research projects:
I am the lead curator on a capital project to refurbish the Egyptian gallery at World Museum Liverpool that will open December 2008. The project has been generously funded by the DCMS/Wolfson Museums & Galleries Improvement Fund, the and the Sir Richard Foster Memorial Fund.
I have been engaged in fieldwork in Egypt since 1997, working on excavations at Saqqara, Zawiyet Umm el-Rakham, Tell Abqa’in and KV 39 in the Valley of the Kings. I’m currently involved with the ongoing excavations of the Ramesside fortress at Zawiyet Umm el-Rakham (directed by Dr Steven Snape of the University of Liverpool) and survey work at the Unas Cemetery.
