This is an original drawing for the cartoon that appeared in "Vanity Fair" in the December 20th, 1900, issue, drawn under the pseudonym "Spy". Third Marquess of Salisbury [1830-1903] was elected an MP for Stamford in 1853 and he succeeded to the Peerage in 1868. He was Prime Minister 1885-1892 and 1895-1902.
