Adze

LIV.2010.132.33

Information

A hafted stone adze with a wooden handle and fibre binding. The haft has carved surface decoration with grooves (haehae) and ridges over half of its length and a face carved on the blade end, with grooves representing tattoos. There is a round hole through the base of the shaft. The wood is splitting in several places and the binding does not look original. The blade appears to be fixed the wrong way up, with the bevel at the top rather than underneath.
