Information

Alabastron (perfume vase) of Egyptian alabaster or calcite. Long narrow body with a rounded end, a narrow neck and a broad, splayed mouth. Ground and beautifully polished surface. The vessel has been carved to take advantage of the fine grain of the stone. Danson Catalogue 2 no. 130: "5 1/8 narrow top rim ??? handles, nicely marked stone, undamaged". Compare with W. M. F. Petrie, Stone and Metal Vases (London, 1937) no. 963 but no lugs. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Chipped, cracked,scratched, surface dirt, label adhered to surface.
