Amiens on the Somme

Information

Thomas Boys met artist Richard Parkes Bonington (1802–1828) in Paris in 1825 and was deeply influenced by his methods and style. Boys made a great many watercolours and lithographs of picturesque architectural subjects. This is an elaborately finished 'exhibition watercolour' and lacks the freshness of his earlier work. It was shown at the annual exhibition of the New Watercolour Society in London in 1849. It must have been done from earlier sketches as Boys did not revisit France after 1839.
