Apulian red-figure amphora of the plain type (one or two figures on each side). Near in style to the Judgement Painter, the name given to a group of red figure painters from S. Italy by Trendall and based on the depiction of the Judgement of Paris in a bell krater at the British Museum (1814,0704.573 0 ) Side A: Scene at a household shrine. Nude youth with spear, offering casket to seated veiled women beside a stele, on top of which is a kalathos (lidded basket). to the right, a woman bends forward, with wreath in right hand. Side B: 2 draped youths one with staff. The scene is framed by a laurel wreather along the neck and the meander frieze a the lower part of the body.
