Plain tall ceramic amphora. Long slender neck, slightly wider towards the rim (diameter of neck, 90mm) ; base slopes gently in to spike (length of spike, 11mm). Fabric is buff colour with pinkish tinge. Handles run from just below the rim to halfway down the neck. Acquired for Sir Francis C. Danson by Professor John Garstang (Liverpool University Institute of Archaeology). The label attached to the object reads: "Purchased at Dakke. Amphora of Roman Period"; a temple site in Nubia, now under the waters of Lake Nasser. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Small hole, pitted, surface dirt.
